It was a good thing to be rich. To have enough money to support yourself and your family. To have enough money to never need to work again, but to want to work. To lead a new generation in business and be a successful businesswoman in a world where few civil liberties were offered. Carari Grey lived a good life where others suffered under the talons of the Crimson Vulture.
Carari returned home and was tended to by her servants as she went over to her study. She grabbed a pack of cigarettes and lit one up putting it into her mouth and inhaling the smoke into her lungs. It was her vice, but something she wouldn't give up any time soon. Carari relaxed in her chair and called one of her servants into the room.
"Go fetch Dani for me, would you?"
The servant nodded his head and left the room to find Dani. Carari was proud of her daughter's success in school and was confident she had what it took to take over the famliy business if anything ever happened to her.
It was the reason Carari chose her to be her family.

Dani was in her room playing a game on Carari Incorporated Ovega Game System when the servant entered her room.
"Miss Danielle, your mother would like to see you."
"I'll be right out."
The servant left as Dani found a save place in the game she was playing and turned off the system. Knowing that a meeting with Mother could prove to be a long one, so she didn't want her system over heating by being on too long. Dani stood up from her seat and left her room being led to Carari's study and being left alone as Dani looked over to her mother smoking her usual cigarette. She didn't care for the smell of it, but she was used to it by now as often as she smoked.
"What do you need, Mother?"

Carari released a smoke ring from her mouth as she looked up at her daughter. Proud of the beautiful young woman she has become in recent years. Surely men would be flocking to her soon, as they did her when she finally turned eighteen.
"Do I need to have a reason to see my daughter? Have a seat."
Carari would wait for Dani to sit down across from her as she burnt the cigarette in her hand on the ash tray.
"How was school today? Any cute boys there?"
Carari was mainly teasing Dani as she knew Dani wasn't interested in dating or sex. At least not yet.

Dani sat down across from where Mother was sitting and leaned back in the chair comfortably as Mother asked her question. Dani could only sigh as she knew her mother was trying to get under her skin for the fun of it.
"Boys at my school are only interested in two things: getting wasted and having sex. Neither of which interests me. I go to school to learn and grow, not to party and waste time."
Dani thought many of the boys in her school were low life scum and wasting their life with their lifestyle. Dani looked down on boys like that, and girls like that. She was better than they were. She knew it.
"Surely you didn't call me down here just to tease me."

Carari only smiled at Dani's reply. Dani was an intellectual woman who needed intelligent discussion to sooth her. Much like herself. Of course she wouldn't be interested in what the low life were interested in. She was a Grey now. And Greys were held to a higher standard than that of the common people.
"Of course not. I want to know how you feel about the recent attack on our TV station in Sector One. About this Resistance growing in Isafaro. General Vulture wants them publicly executed to make a point that no resistance can stand agaisnt the might of the Crimson Vulture. Do you agree with his decision?"
It was kind of a trick question as anyone who didn't agree with the Crimson Vulture were knocking on death's door.

"Does it truly matter if I agree with it or not? The Crimson Vulture will do as they please in the city until another group powerful enough to overthrow them turns up. Just like how General Vulture overthrew the last form of government to form his military paradise."
Dani knew how this worked. Trick question after trick question. All to get under the skin and prompt a reaction from her. Carari was an expert chess player and she liked to test her allies and even family to make sure they were ready for the challenges that awaited them. In a way Dani enjoyed it.
"I must say though, that woman working for the Resistance sure is cute."
Now it was Dani's turn to annoy Mother.

Carari laughed in spite of herself at that last remark.
"So it's girls you enjoy, and rebels at that. I'll have to remember that for later."
With Carari you never knew if she was making a threat, or a promise. She didn't care if her daughter turned out to be a lesbian, or bi, or whatever the different terms were now. As long as she could run her business effectively then that all that mattered to Carari.
"Let's talk about something that would concern you. How would you respond to an unauthorized broadcast on your network that goes against the current form of government with a mad General breathing down your neck?"

Dani took a moment to ponder on Mother's question. She enjoyed being challenged like this. It's why she enjoyed games like chess instead of checkers, and vastly superior computer programs to weaker ones, and harder video games than easy ones. It was what made her tick.
"I would make a public statement that CGN does not support the views and opinions of the Resistance and that the broadcast was made unknowingly. Then I would beef up security at all available TV stations and assure the General that it will never happen again."
Dani was content with her answer. Part of it was what Carari already did, but when you had the right answer it stayed the same regardless of who thought of it first.

"You couldn't come up with something more original, then?" Carari teased. "Like mother like daughter."
Carari smiled again and took another cigarette from her pack and lit it up before sticking it between her teeth. Inhaling more smoke into her lungs. Despite many medical professionals telling her smoking was a bad idea, she couldn't help but to smoke. It relaxed her and kept her calm. There was nothing that tasted better than a good cigarette in the morning.
"What would you do if I died tomorrow?"

Dani didn't respond to the tease. She would however respond to the next question Mother had posed towards her. What to do if she died tomorrow, and with her vice being smoking that could very well happen sooner than one thought.
"I would prepare your funeral and broadcast a history of your life and your accomplishments on CGN to celebrate your life before fully taking over your responsibilities as Chairwoman of Carari Incorporated. I would keep the name the same of course, as you were the one who came up with the company. Not me."
Once again she was content with her answer, and was sure her mother would be satisfied with it as well. It wasn't a fun thought to have, but it was a necessary one.

"Aren't you forgetting something rather important?"
Carari smiled as she took another drag of her cigarette. Dani was forgetting one crucial aspect of all of this. The most important part really.
"You're forgetting to mourn."
Carari knew her death would be a sad event. Losing such a brilliant mind to the wheels of fate. There would never be another Carari Grey, and nobody would run the company like she did. Not even her daughter.
"Your plan is all well and good, but Carari Incorporated is more than just CGN. You'll have the movie division, television, music, sports, news, and video games. You'll have to oversee all of that on a full forty hour work week, if not more. Are you sure you'll be up to it if I were to die tomorrow?"
