Tori leaned back on her sofa and poured herself a glass of wine she had been keeping for a couple of weeks. She decided that a successful mission warranted a refreshing beverage. She took a couple of sips and watched some TV drama on the television as she also listened to the music downstairs. She didn't know which dancer was dancing now, but she could hear the cheers of the men who paid to see the woman get naked. As if they couldn't get a woman to take her clothes off for free. Tori's thoughts went away from all of that when she heard a knock at her door.
"Come in."

The man to enter the room was none other than Garrus Vakarian. Dressed in a blue shirt and matching jeans. He felt strange wearing regular Jenesis clothes instead of his army uniform. It just didn't fit him well in his mind, but there was no reason to dress like they were about to go to war just yet. Garrus Vakarian "Commander. I thought you could use some company, if you don't mind." Garrus was nervous. He didn't know why. He had spent plenty of time with Tori before. But many of those occasions were mission assignments meant to aid the Resistance in their goals of overthrowing the current form of government. Never casual. Garrus took to breathing through his nostrils and out his mouth to relax. That how they taught you to breathe around here. In through the nose and out the mouth.

Tori looked up to see Garrus now in her room and smiled up at him.
"Not at all. Have a seat."
In truth Tori could use some company. The thought of sitting here watching TV being too lazy to go to bed just seemed so boring. Garrus could lighten the mood for her. She held up her bottle of wine and slightly swung it to the left and right.
"Want some?"

Like a temptress Tori waved the bottle in front of his face as he sat down across from where Tori was lazing about on the sofa. How could he refuse? Garrus Vakarian "I'll need a glass unless you plan to give me the bottle." Garrus was more relaxed now. Mainly because of Tori herself. He couldn't believe how close they came to losing her today to the Morlocks, but Kragen was able to save her ass. He didn't know what it would mean for the Resistance if they ever lost Commander Jacobs. Garrus Vakarian "What are you watching?"

"I'm not that nice."
Tori poured a glass of wine for Garrus and handed it over to him before leaning back on her sofa and taking another sip of her wine.
"Some show. Truth be told I was listening more to the music downstairs than watching this. What's up with you, Garrus? Can't sleep?"

Garrus took the glass of wine and had a sip before listening to Tori's question. Garrus Vakarian "Just thought I'd keep you company for a while. We had a lot of close calls tonight. If the fight wasn't one worth fighting I would reconsider helping the Resistance some times, but the Crimson Vulture is something that needs to be stopped once and for all. How about you? What's on your mind?"

Tori took another sip of her wine while pondering on Garrus's question.
"Just wondering how long it would take us to corner the lizards to one spot of the sewers to contain them for the Morlocks. I have my doubts we'll be able to do it before the Hallows arrive. Unless we wake up even earlier than scheduled."
As for the close calls, Tori had this to say:
"Close calls are in the job description, Garrus. You know that. I admit, I wasn't acting very smart when my life was in danger, but that's what I have you guys for. To watch my ass when I'm not thinking clearly."
It was hard to think clearly when you had a knife to your throat. That was her excuse anyway.

Garrus Vakarian "I imagine it would take a while. You never want to rush something as dedicate as that." Garrus listened to Tori and had to chuckle a bit. Not really how their relationship should work, but it was still amusing nonetheless. The Commander just didn't want to admit she needed to be more careful in situations like that if she wanted to live a long life. But after some of the things he knows she has seen, maybe that wasn't high on her agenda. Garrus Vakarian "We can keep you from making an ass of yourself, but we won't always be there to help. It just unsettles me, the idea of losing a good comrade and a good friend so early in our relationship." There was more to it than that, but Garrus was afraid to say the words.

Tori only laughed at Garrus's remark and took another sip of her wine. It took her a bit to even get tipsy, let alone drunk. Not that she was wanting to fight a hangover in the morning when they had to get up early for their next mission.
"I get what you mean, Garrus, really I do, but some times people are taken from us too soon. We all have to be ready for the day we're not coming back from a mission."
Tori wasn't ready to die, but if she had to die at least she would die for a cause. Freedom. The kind of freedom she knew back in Moon Valley. She knew Isafaro deserved the same kind of freedom and she would fight tooth and nail to make sure they finally got it. As God as her witness she was going to get them a new and better government to govern the people.

Garrus Vakarian "I just don't think we should accept it as fate so soon." Garrus was a fighter. He fought everyday. If he had to fight to make sure he and his comrades stayed alive a little longer then he would do that. Their line of work made you appreciate each moment. That was why he had to find the courage to say what he was feeling now, as there might not be another chance. Garrus Vakarian "Tori, I like you. A lot. I think... I think I'd like to take our relationship to the next level. Will you go out with me?" That felt awkward as all hell, but at least he got it out there. Now all he had to wait for was a response. The worst she could do was say no.

Tori was surprised at the proposal Garrus had laid out. She didn't think the turian had felt about her in that way, and now he was asking her out in the middle of a wine tasting. Tori didn't know what to say or do, as it had been a long time since somebody had asked her out on a date.
"I don't know what to say."
Part of her wanted to say yes, while the other half was afraid of what this would do to their friendship and business relationship if it went poorly. She was just dumbstruck.

Garrus leaned forward in his chair and made eye contact with Tori. People always said maintaining eye contact was important in situations like these, so he wouldn't waver now. He was close to a real date with the Commander and he wasn't about to screw it up. Garrus Vakarian "Say yes. What's the worst that could happen?" Sadly, Garrus thought of various different scenarios of how things could go wrong on such a date. It didn't help that they were wanted in Isafaro so they were limited on where they could go for a date, but Garrus was determined to get one step closer to Tori, and this was the best way to do it.

"A lot of things could happen," Tori retorted.
She was sure Garrus was thinking the same thing she was, but he looked determined to get a date with her. Tori didn't know what to say, but she knew she didn't like to make decisions this big on the spot.
"I'll think about it, Garrus. I think you should leave for the time being. After our mission tomorrow I should have an answer for you."
That should be all the time she needed to come up with a yes or no answer to his question. At least she hoped anyway.

Garrus Vakarian "Of course. Take all the time you need." It wasn't a no, but it wasn't a yes either. Garrus said his goodbyes to Tori and got up from the sofa, finishing off his glass and putting it down on the table for Tori to clean up later before he headed out of the room and back to his. He was one step closer to having the kind of relationship he wanted with the Commander. He could practically taste it.

"Thank you, Garrus."
It was hard to find a man who was understanding of a woman's feelings, but Garrus proved to be that kind of man from all the time she has known him. She got up and cleaned up the wine glasses in the sink and enter her bedroom to go to sleep. Garrus didn't know it yet, but the more she thought about it...
The more she was leaning to yes.
