"Right. Of course you don't."
The lizards crawled around the walls of the room and hissed at the three of them. One lunged at Tori, and Tori answered their lunge with a hail of bullets from her assault rifle to take the lizard down. The others began to lunge one after the other at the trio and Tori continued to fire a hail of bullets at the lizards that were coming down from the walls. They weren't going to get stuck here. Not after everything they've been through.
Not here.

There was a mystery hanging over their heads while danger lurked around every corner. Kragen held up the G3 and fired at the in-coming lizards lunging down from the walls. They were faster. Faster than one could believe, but they weren't unbeatable. Nothing in this world was unbeatable. Everything could be defeated if you just had the brains to do it. These were mutated lizards, not anything they couldn't handle. Kragen dodged an in-coming lizard and punched it in the face before pumping more bullets into its chest to kill it.

Garrus hit one lizard that got too close with the butt end of his rifle and knocked another one at a distance so he could unload with his rifle. The lizards were relentless, more so than usual, and they needed to end this fight quickly before the fire fighting lured in Vulture soldiers from the surface. Garrus fought off another lizard that got too close, and wasn't liking these close calls. He backed up and fired more shots at the lizards raining down from the walls.

"This is ridiculous!"
The lizards weren't letting up. It felt like they were just coming and coming. For every one they took down two more took their place. They had to get out of here and make damn sure the lizards didn't follow.
"This way!"
Tori led the trio down to another tunnel opening and then turned around with a grenade. Tossing it at the ceiling of the tunnel and then running away as the grenade exploded and collapsed the tunnel so the lizards couldn't follow them. She didn't want to close off a passage like that, but she had no choice. They had to get away from the lizards before they ran out of ammunition and was in real trouble.
"That was a close one. Now let's get the hell out of here before something else comes crawling towards us."
As Tori turned the corner she was immediately hit with a lead pipe and fell to the ground as deformed mutants came flooding the area and using their powers to overpower the trio with the attempt to capture them. Who were they remained unknown. But they were mutants that lived in the sewers. And they were fierce.

Kragen followed Tori out of the large room and into the tunnel that she closed so the lizards couldn't follow. Kragen approved as much as it was bad they lost a passageway into the sewers. Before anything could be said Tori was knocked out and hideous beings came flooding in. Kragen open fire on them but it was no use. They were too powerful. They disarmed Kragen and knocked him out with superhuman strength he hasn't felt in a long time. Was this finally the end of the line? Were they meant to die in the sewers? Only the wheels of fate knew for sure.

Garrus was the last one standing, and he would make this new enemy work for it. Even though he was quickly disarmed, he wrestled with the unknowns for quite some time before a bald man wrestled him down to the ground and punched him repeatedly in the face until he lost conciseness. That was it. The trio had been defeated. And it wasn't even the Crimson Vulture that finally did it.

A couple of hours later Tori woke up and found herself chained up to a wall with various people staring at her. They all looked ugly except for one who looked perfectly normal. Leading them was an ugly woman with a black eye patch who approached where Tori, Kragen, and Garrus were now bound to the wall.
"Who the hell are you?"
"I'll be asking the questions around here," replied the woman. "Why have you been coming and going in the sewers?"
"Why should I tell you anything?"
"Because I'd hate to see anything happen to your friends."
The woman with the eye patch nodded her head and one of her goons held up a knife to Kragen and Garrus's throats threatening to cut them wide open if Tori didn't talk.
"Still want to resist?"
"We're part of the Isafaro Resistance. We've been using the sewers as a means to travel the city because we're wanted on the surface."
"Your presence has stirred the lizards in the sewers and left many of us injured. Explain to me why I should let you walk."
"I'm sorry that happened to you, but it wasn't our intent. We had no choice."
"I should kill you right now, you redheaded bitch!"
The woman held up a knife straight up to Tori's throat and stared at her in the eyes.
"Any last words?"
"If you kill us you'll only have more people coming through the sewers disturbing your place of residence. And they won't rest until they find the ones who killed us."
"Is that so?"
"Don't do it, Callisto!" said one of the mutants.
"So your name is Callisto."
Callisto stared at the one who spoke and then lowered the knife. "We are the Morlocks and we live here in the sewers because the surface shuns people like us. Those who were experimented on by the Crimson Vulture. Your presence threatens everything we've built here. I command you to leave the sewers and never come back."
"I can't do that."
"Then I have no choice but to kill you."
Callisto brought the knife back to Tori's throat, but this time Tori kicked Callisto in the chest causing the knife to fly up. Tori caught the knife in her mouth and came forward as much as she could to slash Callisto in the face before spitting out the knife. Callisto coughed and staggered and then punched Tori in the face knocking her back against the wall as Callisto picked up the knife and held it back to Tori's throat.
"Now I'm definitely going to kill you."
"Go ahead and do it, bitch!"

Kragen was the next one to come to as he felt the knife to his throat. He tried to move, but the chains bound him. His sudden movement scared the mutant that had the knife to his throat and the mutant stepped back. Kragen looked over to see Tori's mouth had gotten her in a pickle, so he would do his best to defuse the situation.
"You don't want to do that."
Kragen was carefully testing to see how tough these chains were. They weren't going to be able to power their way out of this one like Tori was trying to do. They would have to talk their way out of it.

Garrus woke up and saw the knife to his throat. He stared at the mutant holding the knife and the mutant stepped down out of fear. These weren't killers. Garrus could tell that much by looking at them. They all looked scared of the three despite overpowering them before. Garrus looked over to where Tori was with who he guessed was the mutants' leader about to take Tori's life. Garrus Vakarian "We're not your enemy! We can help you live a more peaceful life on the surface. There's no need to live in the sewers with all the dangers in it." He hoped he could help Kragen talk sense into their leader. He didn't want to see Tori's life ended here. He couldn't bear that.

Tori wasn't thinking straight. All the blood had gone to her head and she was cranked up to eleven. If this Callisto wanted to kill her then she should do it already. Tori lived a full life without regret, but then Kragen and Garrus spoke up and Tori realized she still had things she needed to do in life. She couldn't die here like a dog. Callisto looked over to Kragen while keeping the knife at Tori's throat.
"And why don't I want to do it?"
Tori was fortunate Callisto was entertaining Kragen's objection as Callisto turned her attention to Garrus.
"We can't live on the surface. Look at us. They would turn us away and treat us like garbage. The sewers is the only place we can live in peace and you three have threatened that with your mission to unseat the Crimson Vulture. Something that no one has been able to do."
Callisto's knife had lowered from Tori's throat now as she addressed Garrus. Giving Tori room to breathe. For now she kept her mouth shut, figuring that she had caused enough trouble for the three of them.

Good. The woman had lowered the knife while speaking to himself and Garrus. Anything to give the Commander more time to think of a way out of this. Kragen had a solution and hoped that Callisto would consider it.
"The Crimson Vulture is going to want to make an example out of us publicly. If you kill us they'll never be able to do that, and they'll be digging through the sewers to find the bodies. Not caring who they mow down in their search. You would also have to worry about the Resistance wanting to avenge our deaths. You'll never find peace. But if you let us go we can take care of your lizard problem."
It would take a bigger squad, and he hoped Imai would grant them their request, or they wouldn't be able to show their faces here in the sewers again with Morlocks still present. It was their only chance to get out of this alive.

Garrus figured out what Kragen was trying to get at, and decided to play along for the Commander's sake. Garrus Vakarian "He's right. You'll have Vulture and Resistance down here if you kill us, but if we're kept alive we can help make your home just a little bit safer." Garrus didn't know how Kragen planned to do it, as there were hundreds of mutated lizards in the sewers among other things, but it was their only gamble right now. They couldn't break the chains and only the Morlocks could release them now.

Callisto did indeed consider Kragen's proposal, and Tori could've kissed the old man then and there if she wasn't already chained up by the arms.
"Think of all the things you could do without having to worry about the hostile mutations in the sewers."
Callisto looked back to Tori and then to her people. They were all eager to see the strangers help them in their conflict with the lizards. Like any good leader she had to think of her people first.
"All right. But if you double cross us you'll deeply regret it. Release them!"
Three of the Morlocks stepped up and undid the chains of all three of them and let them go. Tori tended to her wrists and looked around the room for their weapons.
"Where are our things?"
"Ape, fetch their equipment."
A homeless looking man left the room and came back with their weapons tossing it to the floor by their feet.
"Now go."
Tori grabbed her weapons and put them back on her person and waited for Kragen and Garrus to grab their things before leaving.
"We'll be back."
"See to it that you are."
Tori waited until they were down a tunnel towards Sector Four away from the prying ears of the Morlocks and looked at Kragen.
"Now how do you propose we go about cleaning up the sewers from all the mutated lizards that lurks in it?"
She was curious to hear his plan, if he had one.

The plan worked and they were back on their path to Sector Four. It felt like a lifetime since they've been at that sector and it was going to feel good to be back. Kragen came to a stop when Tori questioned him about his plan to clear the sewers of all threats. He would enlighten her.
"With a bigger squad we can corner the lizards to one part of the sewers and blow it. A small price to pay for the rest of the sewers to be lizard free."
He was sure his plan was sound. It would only take asking Imai Katayo nicely if they could borrow a few more foot soldiers for the task. In the end it aided them in their plight against the Vulture to have an easier time traversing the sewers.

Garrus was relieved that they were out of Morlocks territory and one step closer to their destination. He stopped when the other two did and listened to Kragen's plan to get rid of the sewers. Surely Imai would grant them that request once they explained the situation. Garrus Vakarian "It could be consider cruel considering the lizards didn't ask to be this way, but it's effective. How many people have died already at their claws?" Garrus was willing to do it. It helped proved themselves to the Morlocks and maybe they could have a relationship with the sewers dwellers in the future that could be beneficial to both parties involved.
